Lydia Ramos Cruz

 

With 20 years of litigating experience, Ms. Ramos is admitted to the Puerto Rico state courts, as well as the District Court of Puerto Rico, the First Circuit of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.  Ms. Ramos is also licensed in the Illinois State Courts.  She has a broad appellate practice in State and Federal Court.  Ms. Ramos has participated in public cases, such as the outcast of Representative Alida Arizmendi, the shut-down of the health plan of the Federación de Maestros, the constitutionality of the Puerto Rico forfeiture act, and the 2016 removal of Miss Puerto Rico Universe from the pageant.  Also, Ms. Ramos has won cases with substantial awards of over $70 million in a RICO case in the District Court of Puerto Rico and almost $1 million in the Vasarely matter dealing with the artwork of French painter, Victor Vasarely, after a 19-day trial.  A leading case dealing with the constitutional right under the 5th Amendment not to self-incriminate was also successfully litigated by Ms. Ramos all the way to the Supreme Court.    She has handled matters involving complex federal laws such as the Lanham Act, the Medicare/Medicaid Act, RICO Act, Sherman Act, Wiretap Act, Stored Communications Act, and Copyright Act, among others.  Ms. Ramos has also extensive administrative experience.  Ms. Ramos handles litigation matters involving contract law, commercial law, malpractice, labor and discrimination, and torts.
